How to Take Care of Your New Construction Home
(3 Easy Things You Can Do To Keep Your Home Running Like New)

Buying a new home can be an exhilarating process. Whether a first-time or seasoned buyer, there is nothing quite like the moment when you turn the key and step into the house that you’ve been dreaming about for months. And it’s yours!

This beautiful, new home with carefully selected options, and shiny new appliances feels like you’ve escaped to a luxury destination. After a hard day’s work of moving and arranging, you close your eyes and drift off to sleep. You’re home.
As the days continue on, and you settle into your  home and start making it yours; you’re likely to encounter a few things that hadn’t yet crossed your mind. Moving into a new home from an apartment or a well-established house brings new things to be mindful of to ensure that your home is well taken care of and running smoothly.

It’s important to be prepared for these so that you not only love coming home the first day, but that you love coming home every day after as well.

HVAC Filters

One of the easiest things you can do to ensure your new home is well taken care of for the first few months is to simply switch out the air filters regularly. In a new home, all of the dust created during the build process is still settling and being filtered out of the HVAC system.

The best way to aid that process along is to switch the air filter out each month for the first six months. This will help to keep the dust in your home to a minimum and keep your HVAC system running in tip top shape!

Yards

Some of the most common questions we get from new homeowners are about their yards. This is often one of the biggest differences coming from a well-established house with a yard that has been in place for years and moving into a newly built home with a brand-new lawn. Whether you have freshly laid sod or seeded soil, establishing a new yard requires some TLC. Thankfully, there are a few tips and tricks that help to make it so much easier!

1. Watering

The first is common sense, but so important - watering your lawn. The young grass that is just sprouting and laying down roots in your yard needs a little extra attention and love, and watering it regularly is the best way to do that.

2. Overseeding

Overseeding your lawn in the late Spring and early Summer will help to turn your yard into the plush, thick blanket of grass that will make your neighbors convinced that the grass really is greener in your yard. Detailed directions to overseeding your lawn can be found here: https://www.homedepot.com/c/ah/overseeding-a-lawn/9ba683603be9fa5395fab90a9f36666.

3. Patience
The third thing that will help ensure that you love your new lawn, is simply time. Grass takes time to grow; and a mature, healthy lawn takes time to establish.
If you are willing to offer a little bit of patience and care to your lawn, you are sure to reap the rewards.

Granite and Tile

Your new home also has beautiful luxury features such as the granite countertops and ceramic tile in your kitchen and bath. These options give your home a feeling of refinement and beauty and deserve to be well taken care of. Thankfully, they require little maintenance and their care is simple and easy.

To maintain your granite and tile - once a year invest in a good sealer for each product and follow the instructions to clean and re-seal the countertops, floors, and backsplashes in your home. Simple maintenance such as this will protect your surfaces from stains and keep them beautiful for years to come.

Your new home is something that you can take pride in and taking care of it is an important responsibility. We want you to not only love coming home, but also to know the best ways to keep your home in great condition.

With these simple tips, caring for your home will be a little bit easier, and you can feel confident knowing that you have the skills and knowledge to do so.
